In an attempt to keep you informed with the current state of contract negotiation, our State Chairman has asked me to share with you the following information;
After exchanging, modifying, countering and reviewing countless proposals on various hot points, including (but not limited to):
· Reducing Sure Post’s footprint at UPS and the return of this work to OUR members
· Clarifying our position on UPS’ harassment of our members through Telematics, ORION, heavy dispatch, etc.
· Health & safety revisions
· Overweight and oversize packages
· Strengthening our pensions
· Creating more full-time jobs
The Company broke the flow of negotiations and introduced a proposal that will require ALL full-time and part-time employees in both the UPS Health Plan and the various Taft-Hartley Plans to pay a portion of their healthcare premiums.
Their initial proposal will require the following co-pays:
· Single $30/week
· 2-person $60/week (includes spouses and employee +child)
· Family $90/week
They are also demanding a 10% increase each year of the new agreement.
General Secretary-Treasurer Hall has made it CRYSTAL CLEAR; the IBT will NEVER accept ANY attempt to have our members pay a portion of their healthcare from a Company that earned $4.389 BILLION in profit.
As I have mentioned to you at previous meetings, we will be planning strategic events, including a nationwide day of protest and sticker day in the very near future. I will share those details with you next week when I visit each Center in person.
Meanwhile, please know that your National and local negotiating committees are working tirelessly on your behalf. We must do our part by staying informed and united. Together we will secure a strong contract for our members and your families.
